If you've developed
a plug-in you'd like to share for free, or if you know of one that
I've missed, let
me know. I'm quite happy to host them on this site, too. |

A lot of Adobe
After Effects and Photoshop (and Premier AFAIK) compatible plugins
will work with Final Cut Pro. This is an ok site for free After Effects
plugin links. Results may vary. |
| AMAFX |
How's your
Japanese? Well don't fret, look for the link that says amafx.sit
near the bottom of the page. Or you can try this
machine translation of the page. You'll find some spiffy generators
including a cute one for making raindrops, and a random line generator.
N.T. who wrote the scripts
sent me gridrand and gridfollow,
two scripts that aren't on the macdtv site, you can download them
here. They add multiple copies
of the frame in either a random grid (a bit like a DV tape fast-forwarding)
or steady grid with time delay (a bit like a security camera). Cracking
stuff! These are open source and N.T.
says you may freely use and modify these scripts. |
| Artmetic |
Artmetic make lots of FCP plugins,
most of which would be good for low end, corporate work, and there's
a free posterize
plugin available on their site |
| Boris |
Boris make
a whole range of commercial plug-ins for FCP After Effects and more.
They're particularly good for text effects (Although my better text
plug in is faster ;). There's a free cartooner plug in available,
and some demos of other stuff. |
| Buena
Software |
Buena make
commercial plug ins, including a very interesting Curves editor. On
their site is a free camera
flash plug in, for that tiiiired camera flash effect, (Matt Sandström
does one too) as well as some demos. |
| Bunnyworld |
A particle
generator for FCP. Just like you'd pay lots of money to get with After
Effects or Combustion.
Well nearly. Don't be alarmed if it looks weird in the canvas, renders
come out ok. Don't grok the name though. Bunnyworld..? |
| CHV |
They make commercial
FCP plug ins, but have a silk and fog plug-in for free download |
| Digiconform |
Digiconform
make systems for conforming 24fps negative from NLE timelines. On
the website, although unrelated, is a Wiggle plug in that Rainer Standke
wrote. It simulates aged film jumping around in the gate. Similar
to the Eureka jiggler plugin |
| Digital
Film Tools |
Download demos
and this
free fast blur filter. It's supposed to be faster than the blur
in FCP, which wouldna' surprise me at all. The link on their downloads
page is goatse though. The correct link is here. |
| Tom
Henderson |
An impressive
garbage matte filter with up to 50 bezier points. The Bezier handles
let you create curves between points, as you would with a mask in
After Effects or whatnot. I've always been meaning to write a plug
in that does this, but Tom has saved me the trouble. Tom also has
written this
plugin that draws screen guides which don't appear in the final
render (text file, you have to save to disk or copy paste). He says
that he'll be doing more, so check back. |
| Kafwang.com |
Home to the
venerable Eureka plug ins, now up to version 5.0, and fully compatible
with Final cut 4+. They continue in their admirable tradition of giving
stuff away for free, with a plugin bundle that includes abstract,
an infra red simulator, and a trackable garbage matte. See Ken Stone's
page for a review
of these filters |
| Lyric

A free Shadow
/ Highlight plugin for correcting over / under exposure. Also some
interesting commercial plugins including a motion tracker. |
| Simon
Kirby |
My separated at birth twin
web page. A Final Cut Pro and related software resources page, has
links
to free plugins, as well as all sorts of other useful stuff. Lots
of info for any Final Cut Professional. And he comes from Austraya
too, mooooit! |
| Joe
Maller |
Start here.
A great source of Final Cut Pro plugins. Most filters are not free,
but they're worth the money. Demos are available too. Also on Joe's
site is the brilliant FXScript
reference. If you want to have a go, go here first. |
| Graeme
Nattress |
lotsa useful commercial filters,
including film effects and tweakage, a bar graph generator, and a
line generator. Some free
plugins are available for download including a gradient dissolve,
a cadence detect for checking 3:2 pulldown, and more. A very useful
person, Graeme helped Patrick Sheffield with his Technicolor
Plugin. |
| Perfectly
Polite Pictures |
Nice looking site with a free
film look plugin available, and a mystery one soon to come.. Wish
I had her web design smarts.. |
| River
Rock Studios |
some commercial plugins of
the make-your-video-look-like-film variety, and a coupla freebies:
Jitterbug, for jittering stuff around, and Chromatic Glow, which looks
like a very useful glow plugin. |
| Dustin
Sallings |
A generous collection of free,
open-source plugins including strobe effects and transitions, random
blocks and progressive blur. Also on his projects
page are some handy AppleScripts including a letterboxing and
a de-anamorphising (is that a word?) droplet. |
| Matt
Sandström |
The Too Much
Too Soon plug ins include blackrestore for putting the black back
into footage, noise reduction, RGB gamma and more. My favourite transition
effect is Matt's Wind Blur Cross. Some good, useful, free and open
source plug-ins from a no-nonsense website. |

Patrick from Pistolera
Post has built a very useful looking two-strip technicolor
emulation plugin and explains the algorithm behind it here.
 |
| spherico |
Some useful FCP tools including
a free field swapper that works by shifting pixels (as opposed to
my time shifting field swapper) and a utility for doing scheduled
recordings with FCP |
| Adam

A
Horizontal Chroma Blur for cleaning up steppy edges in DV's nasty
4:1:1 colour space, and Chroma Offset for fixing chroma timing problems.
You don't know what 4:1:1 and Chroma timing means? Hey newb, you need
to check out the site for comprehensive technical
information about video, and DV. |
