other stuff I've written

this is the lumber room for various other bits of scriptage. The scripts and things below come with absolutely no warranty that they are fit for any purpose whatsoever. So if you use them to fly your home made cruise missile or run your backyard breeder reactor, don't come crying to me when you take somebody's eye out. And don't go mucking around in your best strides either. </dad voice>

Pyclens PycLens

pyclens.png this is version 0.2
This is a python script to automatically generate correct RSS and HTML files so that you can view local folders and subfolders using the PicLens plugin. I installed the PicLens plugin and instantly thought that it would be the perfect way of looking at all the photos I have on my hard drive. But the tool that comes with it only does one folder at a time. So here's my python script to fix that.

To run this you need to install python (it's free as in beer / speech) and PicLens.
If you want to be able to create thumbnails, for faster slideshows you need Image Magick. It will work without it, however. Don't worry, I'm really Calvinist about what software I install on my machines, and I think these are worth having anyway.

To use it you just copy it into the folder you want to scan (including subfolders) and run it. It does its thing, and creates a web page in the top level of that folder and an RSS file for PicLens. You don't have to worry about that because it opens the page in your default browser and you're away.

This is windows only at the moment. If I get asked nicely I'll translate it for Linux and / or mac.

AppleScripts (188kb) autoArchiver

I work with Lightwave a lot and it crashes even more than idiots who talk on their mobiles* while driving. So it's become second nature when working on a scene to do incremental saves all the time. This AppleScript can be attached to the scene's folder where it will quietly tidy all the old versions into a folder, so you don't end up with a zillion obsolete versions to confuse you. It works by recognising suffix which LW adds to incremental saves, so a bit of tweaking would make it useful for your app of choice.

If you're using lightwave you might want to look at my autoarchiver LScript for windows.

find missing frames finds missing frames of an image sequence (or other sequence of numbered files), such as are produced when rendering as an image sequence
batch file renamer renames multiple files in an image sequence. Can also add an offset to the sequence number. sorta obsolete with os 10.3+
mp3 adder watches a folder for newly aquired mp3 files and opens them with iTunes
my little robot automatically searches web pages for text.
soTired Sends the computer to sleep when User (rather than system) activity drops below a user-specified threshold. Good for long renders like lightwave or After Effects or what-not, as unlike the energy saver preferences this won't put the computer to sleep in the middle of your render.
teleport beam me down! One click jumps between OS9 and OSX
thinController an attempt at an appleScript implementation of a LWSN (Lightwave distributed render) controller. A work in progress..

Filemaker Apps simple timecode calculator

A Filemaker Pro application that does useful stuff with timecode, like adding and subtracting, converting raw frames to H:M:S:F, and converting frame rates. It won't run on its own, you need Filemaker Pro ( version > 5) to run it.

Thanks to Tim Landry I've fixed the bug that stopped it from subtracting.
